Baccarat a Deux Tableau
An old form of baccarat,
mainly played in Europe. In this form of the game, three hands
are dealt and there are no set rules governing the bank's play.
Baccarat En Banque
A type of baccarat mostly played
in European casinos. While the goal of this type of baccarat
remains the same, the role of the banker is played by an
employee of the casino.

less same for the game, some variations of the game do have

Banco
The position of the bank in the game.
Bank
One of two betting positions in baccarat, the
other being that of a player.
Bank Hand
The hand which is dealt last and which
acts last.
Bankroll
The total amount of money a player has for
a game of baccarat.
Best Baccarat Bet
A bet on the banker. The banker
stands a winning chance of 45.8%.
Broadway
An aluminum container which holds the
discarded cards during the game.
Burn
The process of removing a card from the game.
Also referred to as burning a card.
Burned Cards
Cards which are removed from the game
after the deck has been cut and before play begins.
Caller
A baccarat dealer. The dealer is referred to
as a caller because he directs the activity of the
players and announces, orcalls, the results of each
hand.Also referred to as the callman.

Chemin-de-Fer
A French variation of baccarat where
the banker is not played by the casino. Instead the banker role
rotates from player to player. The goal of the game is still to
get a winning hand closest to 9. Although rare, chemin-de-fer is
still played in some European casinos.
Chemmy
Slang word used to refer to Chemin-de-Fer.
Cheval
Split bet, in which one-half of the stake
of the player is being played upon each hand.
Comb
The random insertion of cards in a deck. This
is also known as Lace.
Commission
A 5% charge on winning bank bets.
Commission Box
A box which holds the casino chips
which are used to indicate the amount of money owed by a player
to the bank.
Coup
A French word which refers to one round of play
during the game.
Cover
Refers to the covering of all or a partial
amount of the bank bet. This is also referred to as covering
the bank bet.

Croupier
The dealer in the baccarat game. A French
word. Also known as Caller, or Dealer.
Dealer
A casino employee in charge of overseeing the
game of baccart. Also see Caller, Croupier.
Down Card
Any card which dealt with its face
downwards.
Draw
To withdraw a card from the deck.
Face Card
The king, queen, and jack of any suit.

High Roller
A player who bets large sums of money.
House Edge
The percentage of each bet that a player
makes that goes to the house or casino. This is the advantage
that the casino has over the player and is a way of generating
income for the casino. House edge is also referred to as a
vigorish or a vig.
La Grande
French for a 9 that has been dealt as a
natural.
La Petite
French for an 8 that has been dealt as a
natural.
Lace

Lammers
The chips used by casinos for entering into a tournament
or any other event. These chips usually have an amount of money
denoted to them.
Layout
The game of baccarat is generally played on a
marked betting surface. This surface is known as the layout for
baccarat.
Le Grande
Le grande is the French word for Natural
9. Natural is the original hand consisting of the first two
cards, the sum of which total up to either an 8 or a 9.
Loss Bet
A loss bet is a bet against the casino. It
is called a loss bet because players seldom come out to be the
winner.
Mini Baccarat
Mini Baccarat is another version of
baccarat, though a smaller scale version. The difference in this
is that it is generally played by players wagering large amounts
of money and usually has lower limits than baccarat. The layout
used in this game is also of a smaller size.
Muck
Muck is the total of 8 decks of 52 cards which
is used in the beginning of baccarat for the shuffling process.
The total number of cards present in a muck is 416.
Natural
Natural is the original hand consisting of
the first two cards, the sum of which total up to either an 8 or
a 9.
Palette
A palette is a long, flat wooden baton which
is used to move the cards that are on the baccarat table.
Pass
Pass means 'not betting'. If a player passes,
then he has decided not to bet.
Player Bet
A players bet is a bet which has been
placed on the players' hand and favors that the players' hand
will beat the dealers' hand.
Player Hand
A players hand is the first of the two
hands which is dealt in the game of baccarat. The two hands
dealt are the players hand and the dealers hand.
Punto
The Italian word Punto is a term used for the
Player.
Punto Banko
Punto Banko is an Italian name for Baccarat.
Push - A tie between the hand of the dealer and the player's
hand is called a push. Also known as Standoff.
Railroad
Railroad is another term used to refer to Chemin-de-Fer. Please see above for Chemin-de-Fer.
Rule Card
Rule card is a printed card which has all
the rules for baccarat on it.
Sabot
The French word Sabot is a term used to refer
to the Shoe, which is a device used to hold the playing cards.
Shill
Shill are casino girls, usually who are pretty
and young, who sit by an empty baccarat table in order to
attract players to the table. This is also known as Starter.
Shimmy
This is another slang used to refer to Chemin-de-Fer.
Shoe
Shoe is a device, generally made of wood, in
which the playing cards are kept.
Shuffle Up
Shuffle up is a term used to describe
premature shuffling of the cards done by the dealer.
Standoff
Standoff is a term used to describe a tie.

Streak Betting
Streak betting is a system of
raising/lowering the size of one's bet based on what the
situation was in the previous rounds.
Tie
A tie is a situation in which neither the player
or the dealer wins.
Tie Bet
A tie bet is a bet made on the tie. A tie
bet is not allowed in French baccarat.
Upcard
Any card which is dealt with its face facing
upwards is known as an upcard.
